Cypripedium guttatum (The Spotted Lady's Slipper). Perennial herb to 25 cm high with one single large white-purple flower with dots. It flowers in May and June.


Distributed in the forest zone of Siberia and the Far East. It grows in sparse coniferous and deciduous forests, grassy forests, scrublands.

Medicinal raw materials are the roots of all plants that contain essential oils, resinous substance properties, tannins.

In traditional medicine, a decoction of the root and above-ground parts of the plants, the so-called black grass should be drunk with epilepsy, headaches, lack of appetite, mental disorders (a teaspoon per cup of boiling water).

Perennial herb up to 25 cm with an advancement flap. The stem has two contiguous oblong entire leaves, which turn black when dry. Single flower is quite large, purple with white spots, the upper leaf is white. It occurs occasionally in the forests, forest edges, among bushes in a forested area in Siberia.

With the purpose of treatment are applied flowers and grass (all above-ground part of the plant). The chemical composition has not been studied. There is evidence that were discovered an essential oil, resins and tannins. The plant belongs to a very toxic. Has a calming, analgesic and hypotensive effect.

Infusion and tincture of the flowers is used in Tibetan medicine and Russian traditional medicine as a sedative for nervous and mental disorders: epilepsy, convulsions in children, neurasthenia, insomnia, and as a diuretic. Decoction was taken with gastralgia and as a drug substance of stimulating the appetite. Malnourished children were watered by decoction of the flowers, and it was administered as a laxative. The grass and flowers are used as a diaphoretic (fever-reducing) in fever and malaria. In Siberia, the grass and flowers are considered a remedy for all diseases, particularly used for malignant tumors.

Methods of application and preparation: 1. One teaspoon of flowers per 1 cup of boiling water; infuse for 1 hour; drain. Take 1 tablespoon before meals 3-4 times a day. 2. A teaspoon of herbs and flowers to insist 1 hour per cup of boiling water, strain and take 1 tablespoon 3-4 times a day.
