Astragálus dasyánthus

Herbaceous perennial plant of the legumes family, up to 40 cm. The stems are raised, numerous, erect. The leaves are alternate, compound, pinnate, and silky-hairy. It flowers in May - June. The flowers are yellow, clustered in dense Inflorescence. A fruit is bob. It is matured in June - July.


Astragálus dasyánthus is common in the steppe and forest-steppe regions of the European part of Russia. It grows in open areas, hills, old cemeteries and open clearings in the forest. It can be cultivated in the garden. It is propagated only with seeds. It gives preference to fertile soil of the average mineral composition. The plot is prepared for planting in the fall. Under digging over again, is applied 2 kg of manure, 20 g of ammonium nitrate, 30 g of superphosphate and 10 g of potassium salt to 1 m square.
Seeds are sown in early spring in rows or wells to a depth of 2.5-3 cm of 10-20 plants per 1 m.  Distance between rows should be at least 45 cm. Seed germination is usually low (9-16%), but increases dramatically by scarification of seeds with sandpaper. The germination can be accelerated if it is put for 30 minutes in concentrated sulfuric acid, and then thoroughly washed with water. It is accelerated the germination of seeds and heat treatment. The seeds are dipped in gauze bag for 20 s in boiling water, and then the same time in cold water.
In the first 1.5-2 months the plants develop slowly and require good care. On the 2nd and subsequent years astragalus is fed up with ammonium nitrate and granular superphosphate at the rate of, respectively, 10 and 20 g per 1 m or diluted with liquid manure.
Medical raw material is an herb, sometimes roots. The herb is collected during flowering, cutting plants at a height of 5-7 cm from the ground. When assembly, the roots should not be damaged, as it leads to the death of the plants. It is dried in the attic, under a canopy or in a well-ventilated area, laying a layer of 5 - 7 cm and turning occasionally. It is stored in a dry place bags in one year.
Grass contains triterpene glycosides, flavonoids, tannins, organic acids, essential oils, steroids, coumarins, vitamins, tocopherol, large amounts of iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, and silicon, manganese and other trace elements. Astragalus selectively accumulates selenium.
Infusion of herbs has a hypotensive, diuretic and sedative effect strengthens the heart, dilates the blood vessels of the heart and kidneys. It is used in patients with chronic heart failure, angina, and vascular diseases of the kidneys. It has a positive effect at all stages of hypertension and can be used as an additional treatment. Under the influence of Astragalus is a decrease in blood pressure, headaches disappear, dizziness and pain in the heart. The infusion is used to rinse the mouth and throat with periodontitis, sore throat, stomatitis and other inflammatory diseases. Locally, it has a healing effect.
In order to make the preparation, 4 tablespoons of herb is poured with 1 cup of hot water, boiled for 5 minutes, and infused for 3-4 hours. Take 1-2 tbsp. 3 times a day with meals.
A decoction of the root is used as an expectorant and diuretic, general weakness and disorder of the heart.
In order to make the preparation, 6 g of ground roots is poured with 1 cup of hot water, heated in a water bath in a sealed container for 30 minutes, cooled, strained and filled to the original. Take 2 tbsp 3 times a day before meals.
In chronic and acute inflammatory diseases of the kidney, that are not accompanied by swelling, has a positive effect Astragalus mixture and chamomile flowers, taken by 30 g, horsetail grass, corn stigmas, grass of knotweed and rupturewort - by 10 g, 1 tablespoon of such collection is placed in a flask, poured with 3 cups of boiled water for 8 - 10 hours and filtered.
